Get Involved

Sunday Celebrations

We gather on Sunday mornings to sing, pray, learn, be encouraged, connect with each other, drink coffee and tea and eat snacks afterward.  Services often involve discussion of sermon topic.

Sunday School

Searching for Sunday,  an adult class meets at 9:30am every Sunday morning in the Fellowship Hall.
The class focus changes from Bible Study to book discussion to other topics of interest.

Come add to the discussion.

Different perspectives help all to grow.

CHOIRS

Church choir practices at 7:30pm on Thursdays in the Sanctuary.  School year only.

Emerald City Women’s Chorus also practices in the sanctuary. https://www.musiccenternw.org/ecwc

Holy Darkness

Holy Darkness is a contemplative service that combines music, prayer, spiritual readings, and periods of silence to provide a time of rest and reflection. It is a time to more deeply connect with the soul’s longings and the Spirit’s assurance.

Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm in the sanctuary.

All are welcome

S.H.A.R.E. Shelter– (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort)

Woodland Park United Methodist has hosted an indoor shelter in our basement that is operated by SHARE for nearly 30 years.  We consider them to be a part of our family.  To learn more about SHARE or to inquire about screening into the shelter, go to www.sharewheel.org.

If you would like to help, donations are accepted: food, socks, bedding, provide a meal, monetary donations also accepted.

Our congregation is an active participant in:

    • Greenwood Car Show in June – we provide a place space where children can touch and play with cars
    • Phinneywood Annual Art Walk – offering pre-owned art for free
    • Rainbow Hop (in early June) – colorful projects for youth celebrating LGBTQIA+ connection
    • Phinneywood Trick or Treat (end of October) – candy, costumes, canned goods food drive
    • Seattle Pride Parade (end of June) – we march with other Methodist in the parade and serve cookies at the end of the parade

Additionally, we host in our building:

    • Aurora Commons Offices
    • Illumination Learning Studio after school space
    • Nickelsville Office
    • Yoga Behind Bars
    • Cantare Amantis (small choral group led by our Music Director
    • Emerald City Women’s Chorus (also led by our Music Director—open to all)
    • Illumination Learning Studio
    • Evergreen School (uses parking lot for student pick up)
    • Maritime Folknet (Christmas concerts)

We regularly support

Affordable Housing

Our congregation has a long-standing commitment to providing housing and we have hosted several shelters starting nearly 30 years ago.  We are called by our faith to put our energies and our passions into serving the community, not into property ownership.  And so we have developed a plan to use our resources to develop Affordable Housing on the church site.  We will maintain a small portion of the building as a location for our church activities and develop the rest into apartments for those making 30%-60% of median area income.  The current plan would create 92 new affordable rental units.   We have submitted our proposal to the Seattle Office of Housing and are waiting for approval and funding.
